Every April 17th, the world celebrates World Malbec Day, a date that honors the most symbolic grape of Argentine viticulture. In the Uco Valley, Alpasión pays tribute to this variety with two expressions that reflect its identity and elegance: Alpasión Malbec 2022 and Alpasión Grand Malbec 2021.
Both wines originate from our vineyards located in Los Chacayes, a Geographic Indication that has become synonymous with quality and enological precision. At over 1,200 meters above sea level, this terroir is characterized by its sandy, alluvial soils with an abundant presence of stones, its continental climate with great temperature variation, and excellent sun exposure.
These conditions allow for balanced maturity, great concentration, and natural acidity in the grapes, making them ideal for crafting wines with character and structure.
This wine expresses the freshness and fruity profile of high-altitude Malbec. It comes from a 7-year-old vineyard, trained on high trellises and employing drip irrigation. The harvest takes place manually in March, using small boxes of 15 kilograms.
Fermentation occurs in cement tanks, utilizing a gravity system to maintain the fruit’s integrity. A small portion of the wine (12%) is aged for 10 months in new French oak barrels.
Deep violet-red in color, it presents aromas of ripe red fruits, subtle spices, and a slight toasty touch. On the palate, it is juicy and balanced with soft tannins.
Crafted from a careful selection of the best parcels of the vineyard. The grapes are hand-harvested at the end of April, with low yields per hectare (80 qq/ha).
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, then the wine is aged for 12 months in new French oak barrels and bottled unfiltered, with natural cold stabilization.
With an intense color, it offers aromas of ripe plums, blackberries, violets, cocoa, and tobacco on the nose. On the palate, it is broad, with firm and polished tannins, and a long finish.

World Malbec Day was the perfect opportunity for us to pay tribute to a grape that represents the best of our viticulture and to do so with wines that originate from one of the most expressive terroirs in Mendoza.
Malbec is the grape that has best adapted and developed throughout this vast country, producing wines with unique characteristics that highlight the terroirs of various wine regions, yet always carrying the essence of Argentine Malbec.
